Each year on Women Veterans Day, we pause to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary contributions of women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Observed on June 12, this day marks the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, which allowed women to serve as permanent, regular members of the military. Since then, millions of women have answered the call to serve, breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and shaping the future of our armed forces.

At ATP Gov, we are proud to honor the legacy and ongoing impact of women veterans. Their courage, resilience, and leadership not only strengthen our military but also enrich our communities and workplaces. Today, we are especially honored to highlight two of our team members—Desiree DelPrete and Heide Blatchford—whose military service exemplifies the strength and spirit of women in uniform.

Desiree DelPrete: A Lifelong Commitment to Service

Desiree DelPrete’s journey into military service began with a bold decision at just 15 years old. Enlisting in the Marine Corps through the delayed entry program, she demonstrated early on a fierce determination to serve her country and grow into a stronger, more resilient version of herself.

After graduating high school, Desiree reported to Parris Island, where she completed 14 weeks of one of the most demanding boot camps in the U.S. military. Her perseverance and leadership potential quickly became evident. At 19, she received her first assignment at Camp Johnson, North Carolina, where she trained in military accounting. Her career continued at Camp Lejeune and later in Hawaii, where she served as the operations manager for the dispersing office for five years.

Desiree retired from active duty as an E6 Sergeant, but her commitment to the Marine Corps mission didn’t end there. She continued to serve in a civilian capacity in Hawaii for another five years, supporting military operations and mentoring others with the same dedication she brought to her active-duty role.

Today, Desiree brings her extensive experience, organizational acumen, and leadership to ATP Gov, where she plays a vital role in delivering technology solutions to the military. Her story is a testament to the enduring value of military service and the powerful impact of women veterans in the civilian workforce.

“I joined the Marines at a young age with the intention of becoming a stronger version of myself. The experience allowed me to dig deep within and discover that unwavering part of me that never gives up. This tenacity has accompanied me throughout my life. In today’s male-dominated industry, that same tenacity proves invaluable. You push forward with your head held high, making an impact and forging lasting alliances along the way.”

Heide Blatchford: Finding Purpose and Pride in the Air Force

For Heide Blatchford, joining the military was both a practical and purposeful decision. Motivated by the opportunity to earn the GI Bill and pursue higher education, she enlisted in the United States Air Force right after high school. Her journey began at Lackland Air Force Base, followed by technical training at Sheppard Air Force Base, where she became a dental assistant—a role that placed her at the forefront of military healthcare.

Heide’s service extended beyond the dental clinic. She became an expert marksman with M-16s and 9mm handguns. She completed Nuclear and Medical Decontamination training, preparing her to respond to some of the most critical and high-stakes scenarios in military operations.

After her active-duty service, Heide continued to serve in the Iowa Air National Guard, where she deepened her appreciation for the camaraderie and shared mission of military life. She completed her career as an E-4 Senior Airman with the 185th Tactical Fighter Group in Sioux City, Iowa.

Today, Heide brings the same sense of discipline, purpose, and pride to her work at ATP Gov. Her military background informs her approach to teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership—qualities that make her an invaluable member of our team.

“One of the greatest experiences of my life. The discipline, the camaraderie, and the sense of purpose are unlike anything else. It wasn’t just for a paycheck—it was meaningful.”

The Broader Legacy of Women Veterans

Women have served in every major conflict in U.S. history, from the Revolutionary War to today’s global missions. Yet, their contributions have often gone unrecognized. Women Veterans Day is an opportunity to correct that oversight and honor the millions of women who have worn the uniform with pride.

Today, women make up nearly 20% of the active-duty military and 10% of the veteran population. They serve in every branch, every rank, and every role—from combat pilots to cybersecurity specialists, from medics to commanding officers. Their service has not only strengthened our national defense but has also helped redefine what leadership looks like in the 21st century.

A Lasting Impact at ATP Gov

At ATP Gov, we are deeply grateful for the service and sacrifice of all veterans—and we are especially proud to work alongside women like Desiree and Heide. Their stories remind us that the values forged in military service—integrity, perseverance, teamwork—are just as vital in the workplace as they are on the battlefield.

This Women Veterans Day, we honor all women who have served and continue to serve. Your courage paves the way for future generations, and your stories inspire us all. Thank you for your service, your leadership, and your unwavering commitment to making a difference.
